this evening

Our Monday night consisted of the usual-homework, dinner (squash soup with turkey salad sandwiches-yes still eating turkey), showers and chores.
I did however find a couple of moments to sit on the couch to look at a Josh Groban dvd (checked out from the library), knit a few rows-really just a few, and browse thru a couple of magazines~

~aren't these slippers so festive, maybe I could knit two pair, for the girls knitted gifts

~look at those cute animals and owls!

Josh on stage singing (I'm kinda silly to take a picture of my tv :)

~ribbed hat in progress, can you see my copy of MSL magazine peeking in there? I somehow just can't resist her Christmas/Holiday issues

~sweater, coming along slowly

so from now until Christmas, I'll get in one stitch at a time (hopefully more) whenever I can, wherever I can-because realistically I'm no jack rabbit when it comes to knitting, I'm more of a "tortoise" speed (perhaps tortoise and speed shouldn't be in the same sentence, huh?)
Have a wonderful evening!

a few glimpses of our Sunday~at the orchard

~two good

~good sense of humor

~ready for pickin'

~a sign for pumpkins

~pumpkins already picked

We had a great day at the orchard, which also included a tractor ride. I ended up buying close to twenty pounds of apples- the kids picked some, I picked some-so now its time to eat em' up and bake em' up (along with some frozen apples that I still have from last year-before freezer burn sets in, thanks Kirsten for the freezer burn alert).

Nichole's ode to apples
Apples, apples everywhere
crunchy juicy lovely fare
I eat you for a snack
then I come back
to bake you in a pie
and then everyone says "my oh my!"
fall begins with you
I know its true
that you're
so sweet
so tart
so crunchy
so many things rolled into one
so when I have a chance I pick almost a ton.
Apple, apples everywhere
Thanks you for the autumn goodness that you share (:

a few glimpses of our Sunday

Today's happenings included~

~taking my small pint of raspberries-they had gotten a bit soft, so I figured it was best to make some jam (oops! a little spill over)

~enjoying the weather outside with a bike ride on the sidewalk next to our house

~wondering what concoction I should make up with these dried herbs (lemon balm, coriander, and calendula)

~putting my little ole' jam into a cute little jar, can't wait to try it out on a piece of toast for breakfast in the morning.

I stayed around the house all day today-nothing scheduled to do today, but a lot to do (I know you get it :)

Have a wonderful upcoming week!

a few glimpses of our Sunday

Sunday, the beginning of a new week. A day for both rest and attempts at organization~

We started the day with breakfast~
potatoes, yellow squash, venison summer sausage

the kids played outside for a little bit~

I sat down with my coffee mid-afternoon (I needed a little afternoon pick me up) and attempted menu-planning, can you believe it?

I'll let you know how this menu-planning thing works out for me, since I'm usually a crunch time type of gal (:

Hope you have a wonderful upcoming week!

Sunday breakfast: green tomatoes and blueberries

This morning I sliced up some green tomatoes for frying. My tomato plants at the community garden were not staked well enough, so I had to use a bunch of twine, pantyhose, and more stakes to get the tomato vines off the ground. During that process I just went ahead and removed some green tomatoes so the plants would have less weight. I cut some of the green tomatoes up and put them in the jar with the pickles we made the other day (as the pickles lessen, I add more green tomatoes to the brine) and this morning I decided to fry some. I remember when I was young how my own grandmother fried green tomatoes-not only for breakfast, but for anytime. The crunchiness of the batter and the tartness of the tomato is so good.

~tomatoes getting a milk, egg bath then dredged through flour and cornmeal

~all fried up

I also whipped up some blueberry muffins, unfortunately it seems like my kids have a thing about cooked/baked fruit (so that only means more for me and the hubby :)
On most Sunday mornings I have a bit more time to make breakfast, and since usually the whole family is home that makes it even more special. During the week things are a bit more busy and hectic-so we may have cereal, a piece of fruit, boiled egg, just simple things. Sunday then gives more time for cooking, more time for eating, and most importantly, more time for just being.

lazy Sunday

eating scones

making scones

wondering if we should buy some more herbs transplants

washing strawberries for breakfast

Sundays are usually a relaxing day for us, just lazin' around the house-no real plans (our church services are on Saturday as with most of our church activities). Since I'm a homebody at heart I love these type of Sundays. It prepares me for the busyness of the rest of the week.
Hope you find some time to putter around and nap today-believe me its good for you.
